  • The platform can conflict with macOS

Overview

JumpCloud is a Colorado-based directory platform that specializes in helping organizations to centrally manage their resources. JumpCloud User Management with Cloud Directory Services enables admins both to manage user identities and configure privileged access to devices (Windows, macOS, and Linux), cloud and on-premises applications, networks, infrastructure, and more, as well as gain granular visibility into their environments with built-in monitoring and logging capabilities. User Management can be used standalone or alongside their other offerings (including web single sign-on, device management and telemetry, zero trust capabilities, and more), making it ideal both for organizations looking for privileged access management (PAM) on its own, and those looking for a more comprehensive, all-encompassing solution.

Features

User Lifecycle Management

The JumpCloud platform, as a core directory service, is designed to provide centralized identities for all users across an organization—enabling all users to securely access accounts, resources, networks, and more using a single set of credentials. Using this platform, admins can provision, deprovision, and manage all identities from one central area, including implementing group-based access controls to allow different levels of privilege and access for different users—enabling access only to the resources they need for their roles. What’s great about JumpCloud is that it also enables secure remote user management, meaning admins can gain full visibility and control of privileged remote accounts—without the need for a VPN.

Password Management

JumpCloud’s platform is designed to help amins to manage passwords more securely and effectively in two ways. Firstly, it enables admins to enforce strong password controls and policies to define password requirements, determine frequency of password rotation, the number of acceptable failed login attempts, and more. This helps eliminate some of the risks with weak and static passwords. Admins can also enforce multi-factor authentication across their environment, meaning users must authenticate using a password plus a secondary method of authentication. Secondly, the platform provides a secure location for admins to store passwords. Stored passwords are one-way hashed and salted, meaning they can’t easily be read by hackers that might gain access to the system.

Monitoring And Logging Capabilities

The platform comes with built-in monitoring and event logging capabilities, providing admins a holistic view of their entire IT environments—including authentication requests, which users are accessing which services and when, actions taken, and more. This can be useful not only for security and alerting, but also to adhere with auditing and compliance regulations.

Ease Of Use

As a cloud-based platform, users praise JumpCloud as easy to set up and maintain, and particularly appreciate that it integrates seamlessly with internal and external directories (such as Active Directory, Google Workspace, Okta, and more). Users also describe the user dashboard as particularly intuitive, with simple identity provisioning. Organizations can leverage premium support for the first ten days of using the software, meaning if the need any extra support during deployment or learning to use the product, JumpCloud is there to help. Thereafter, premium support can be purchased as an add-on for $2 per month (for annual subscriptions) or comes included in the highest tier (PlatformPlus).

Pricing

JumpCloud is flexible with its pricing and packages. Users can either choose from a set bundle, or they can select the “À La Carte” option to create their own packages and scale as needed. To begin with, organizations can test the platform with a free ten-day trial, which provides full premium access to the platform for ten users and ten devices. Discounts can also be provided for educational or non-profit organizations.

Set Bundles

There are four set bundles to choose from, each building on the features of the previous bundle. The SSO Package is priced at $7 per user per month, and includes user provisioning and SSO—but does not include user management. The Core Directory Package costs $11 per user per month, and adds access management and logging. The JumpCloud Platform provides access to the whole platform, including complete identity and access and device management. Lastly, PlatformPlus provides access to the JumpCloud platform, plus added zero-trust capabilities.

À La Carte

Choosing the À La Carte option means organizations can build their own packages based on the features they need. This starts from $2 per user per month, priced on an annual basis, and each add on (such as MFA, SSO, user lifecycle management, and more) costs $3 per user per month in addition.

Final Verdict

JumpCloud User Management and Cloud Directory Services is an easy-to-use, highly customizable, and easy to integrate platform that enables admins to securely and effectively provision access to users across their entire IT environments. What sets JumpCloud apart is its easy to integrate directory services and customizable À La Carte pricing, making it an ideal solution for a multitude of use cases. We recommend the platform for mid-sized organizations and enterprises across all industries that are looking for a scalable, customizable access management solution to secure access to their IT environments.
