Azure Sphere Overview
Azure Sphere is a comprehensive solution provided by Microsoft to enhance the security and management of Internet of Things (IoT) devices. It combines hardware, software, and cloud services to create a secure environment for IoT devices throughout their lifecycle. The three main components of Azure Sphere are:
- Secure Hardware: Azure Sphere incorporates a custom microcontroller unit (MCU) that includes built-in security features such as hardware-based root of trust and hardware-enforced isolation
- Secure Operating System (OS): The OS is a lightweight and specialized operating system that includes security mechanisms like defense-in-depth, automatic updates, and hardware-based trust
- Azure Sphere Security Service: This cloud-based service provides device authentication, secure device-to-cloud communication, and monitoring for suspicious activities
